Default Eye of the North question

Hi, im thinking about buying GW:EN and i know its an expansion so you require one of your already made characters to play though does the character have to be level 20?

I heard the character doesnt have to be but can you take a freshly started, level 1, character to GW:EN and still be alright?

thanks

You don't have to be level 20 but you do need access to Lion's Arch.

You need to have gotten to Lion's Arch, Kaineng Center, or Kamadan to get a quest to go to Eye of the North, and you need to be at least level 10. If you are less than level 20, you get something to boost you up temporarily, iirc.

You assume what is where you go? If you are talking Lion's Arch, it's a long way after pre-searing. After pre, you end up in Ascalon City. From there you need to go through Old Ascalon, the Northern Shiverpeaks, and into
Kryta, to get to LA.

Thumbs up

You won't be able to get the quest in Lions or Kamadam until you are level 10. Once lvl 10 you will see the quest offered when you enter those cities. Once you reach EOTN you will be treated as though you are a level 20. (Look at your attribute points, everything will be at least 9 in your main profession.) Highly recommend EOTN

While buying EotN is highly recommended, you DON'T really want to try to play it on a lower level character, especially if you have no characters that have gotten far enough in the stand-alone campaigns to unlock a lot of skills.

Even though your level 10 character is temporarily buffed to 20, you can't control the distribution of the attribute points. You won't have the skills available to deal with the very tough foes in EotN, particularly in the dungeons. You won't have the skills needed to properly set up the heroes you will gain.

Honestly, every time I see somebody in Boreal Station looking for a run to the Eye, I want to tell them to go back to Tyria/Cantha/Elona and come back when they're ready. (I also want to punch those bozos asking 2k for that run, which is almost as evil as charging people to run from Marketplace to Kaineng Center.) Anyone who can't make it to the Eye on their own -- having just been given two heroes, access to max armor, and a choice of some of the best henchies in GW -- is not ready for EotN.

Since you seem to be a fairly new player, I would suggest that you go to EotN long enough to acquire the first three heroes (which is easy), and then come back to Prophecies and finish the campaign. You will have the chance to gain skills for your heroes that way, particularly elite skills, and build up good bars for them before going back to EotN.
